Quantitative & Digital Humanities in Arts Subjects by James Brookes, et al

08-01-2016

Arts subjects are traditionally seen as being non-quantitative and non-digital. In this workshop session, we explore the recent upsurge in interest in quantitative methods and digital humanities for Arts subjects. We discuss the types of computational and digital resources available and demonstrate how novel quantitative methods and digital humanities can complement the richness of qualitative and non-digital research in subjects such as Linguistics/English Language, Classics and Ancient History, and Religions and Theology, amongst others. The presentation was made by James Brookes, Fernanda Barrientos Contreras and Henri Kauhanen of the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures, University of Manchester at the methods@manchester Methods Fair 2015 on 4 November 2015
