Mastering NVivo with the Five-Level QDA® method (2 day workshop)

Learn how to use NVivo as the experts do. 

This means going beyond learning how to simply operate the software, to harnessing it in the service of your analytic strategies. 

The Five-Level QDA method ensures that your use of NVivo is driven by the objectives of your research project and enables you to develop the expertise you need to produce high quality analysis, whatever your methodology.

This 2 day workshop builds on the framework outlined by the Five-Level QDA method by providing: 

• an overview of the sorts of analytic activities that NVivo can be used for
• a comprehensive understanding of NVivo’s components and the ways they can be used to fulfil your analytic tasks
• a detailed understanding of the principles of the Five-Level QDA method 
• guided practice in analytic planning in your own research project
• guided practice in the “translation” of analytic tasks into NVivo tools in your own research project, using Five-Level QDA worksheets 
• a range of case examples that illustrate different ways NVivo can be harnessed
• an opportunity to discuss you project with other participants and the workshop tutors
• access to our companion website that hosts dozens of instructional videos to consolidate your use of the Five-Level QDA method with NVivo

Who should attend

Anyone using, or intending to use, NVivo for a research project, and any prospective instructors of the Five-Level QDA method for teaching NVivo. 

The focus is on learning to use NVivo in the context of your own research project. You should therefore have a qualitative or mixed methods research project in progress, or be just beginning a project with data available. Data may include literature files, primary qualitative data (e.g. interview or focus-group transcripts, survey data with open-ended responses, observational field notes, images, video files etc.) and/or background or secondary qualitative data (e.g. documents and reports, archival material etc.)

Having a project in progress includes familiarity with your qualitative methodology, your research design, and your planned analytic strategies, in other words – what you plan to do with your data. To note, having only data but no planned analytic strategies will make it difficult to fully benefit from this workshop and other training we provide may be more useful for you. If you are in doubt, please get in touch with us to discuss your needs more specifically.

The workshop is based on the principles of the Five-Level QDAmethod and reading Part 1 of our book Qualitative Analysis using NVivo: The Five-Level QDA method before the workshop will ensure you get the most from your two days. All participants are will receive a 20% discount on the price of the book when registering for the workshop.

Please note, this is a 'bring your own laptop' workshop. You can work with either NVivo 11 for Windows (Pro or Plus edition) or NVivo 11 for Mac - ensuring the latest updates are installed. If you do not have a license, you can download the free, 14 day trial version for use during the workshop, from the NVivo website. 

If you have not already been using NVivo, free webinars in basic operating skills are available on the NVivo website. Familiarity with the software will give you a flying start in the workshop.
