Intersectional MAIHDA (Multilevel Analysis of Individual Heterogeneity and Discriminatory Accuracy) is an increasingly popular approach for studying inequalities in individual outcomes across intersections of social identity characteristics, such as gender, race, and socioeconomic background.
In the first half of the session, Professor George Leckie will introduce the MAIHDA approach through an application examining intersectional inequalities in educational attainment using data from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). He will explain the underlying multilevel modelling approach and discuss the interpretation of MAIHDA results.
The session will also provide a high-level overview of recent substantive and methodological work using MAIHDA, including extensions for studying intersectional inequalities in longitudinal trajectory data and for examining heterogeneity of treatment effects in randomised controlled trials.
In the second half, there will be a demonstration of how to conduct a standard MAIHDA analysis in both R and Stata.
Familiarity with standard multilevel models would be beneficial, but is not essential (for a QMEG introduction to multilevel models, see here: https://qmeg.soton.ac.uk/events-and-resources/ ).
The session is free to attend and will take place online via Microsoft Teams.
