A workshop on the thorny issue of sampling and sample size in qualitative research, with Karen O’Reilly.
An opportunity to learn about Interpretive Sampling; Initial, Ongoing and Final Samples; and how to address the thorny issue of sample size through ‘Sample Fitness’. Insights from Karen’s new book: Qualitative Research Methods for Everyone. Plus the opportunity for questions and discussion.
Karen explains what she means by Interpretive Sampling and introduces the key concepts of Initial, Ongoing and Final Samples, and Sample Fitness, using examples from published research.
Note: "Qualitative research is designed to interpret or to make sense of other people’s worlds, and to render these meaningful through writing or other forms of communicating. A qualitative sample should include whoever and whatever will enable the researchers to fully explicate the phenomenon and its relevant dimensions, aspects and conditions”.
