Description:

This hands-on, research-focused workshop teaches machine-learning workflows in R—using tidymodels and caret—to implement supervised and unsupervised methods (regularised regression via glmnet, tree-based models and xgboost, simple neural nets, clustering, PCA/t-SNE) and to handle real-data challenges like missingness, class imbalance, feature engineering, and hyperparameter tuning. Participants will leave able to run end-to-end, reproducible analyses—evaluate and compare models with appropriate metrics, produce interpretable explanations (variable importance, partial dependence, SHAP-style) and justify model choices and workflows for academic publication.
