Description:
This workshop offers an engaging introduction to research approaches, methodologies, and methods that address power dynamics, intersectional inequalities, and aim to create meaningful social impact and change. It focuses on participatory research and approaches that prioritize co-producing knowledge with participants, which have become increasingly prominent in social science research. These methods are not only valuable for tackling complex research questions but also for deepening participants' involvement in generating impact. Moreover, they have played a critical role in advancing our understanding of power relations and dynamics within and beyond the research process.
The workshop will guide students through the development of participatory (action) research from a feminist perspective and provide an overview of both the theoretical foundations and practical applications of participatory approaches. Students will explore the potential of these methods as well as the challenges they present, gaining skills to understand, evaluate, and produce social research grounded in feminist and participatory approaches and epistemologies. A special emphasis will be placed on specific participatory methods, with attention given to how power dynamics and positionality influence the research process. This workshop will combine theoretical insights with hands-on exercises, creating a dynamic learning environment that equips students with the tools and perspectives necessary to engage in transformative research practices.
