Description:

This one-day course is aimed at those who have previously used other software for statistical analysis but are looking for an alternative that offers the capabilities of a professional statistical programming language, while retaining the convenience of a menu-driven software interface and avoiding the costs associated with proprietary packages.

Software such as Minitab, SPSS, S-Plus and Stata often come with a price tag that makes them prohibitively expensive, while Microsoft Excel lacks the capabilities of dedicated statistical software. Free alternatives such as R and Python come with the steep learning curve of a programming language. However, an alternative exists, and this course will help you convert to Jamovi – a free, professional-level package for statistical analysis. This software is open source, free to download and use, comes with an easy-to-use interface, and leverages the capabilities of the R programming language.

The course will concentrate on how to carry out commonly used statistical analysis methods in Jamovi, including graphs, tabulation, hypothesis testing, linear regression and methods for categorical variables. You may bring your own data for analysis or use the example datasets we provide.

We recommend downloading the free software in advance of the course and can give instructions if needed. Alternatively, remote access to computers in our labs can be arranged.

No prior knowledge of statistical computing is required but familiarity with basic statistical methods would be advantageous.
