Description:
Learn how to do qualitative analysis with the aid of AI technologies in this 2-day workshop, led by Professor Christina Silver, Director of the CAQDAS Networking Project and Co-Founder of Qualitative Data Analysis Services (QDAS).
This is a ground-breaking event designed to equip PhD students, professors, and professional researchers with the skills to leverage AI in their qualitative analysis. In the rapidly evolving landscape of qualitative research, the ability to harness the power of AI appropriately is becoming increasingly crucial.
This workshop, utilising software such as MAXQDA, ATLAS.ti, and CoLoop -- and comparing procedures with ChatGPT - covers the principles, practices, and ethics of using these technologies throughout the analytic workflow, and provides a unique opportunity to learn from a leading expert in the field and gain a competitive edge in your research endeavours.
Workshop Overview:
Session 1: Introduction to AI-assisted qualitative analysis and comparative overview of tools
- Overview of AI-assisted qualitative analysis.
- Contextualizing generative AI, focusing on large language models like ChatGPT.
- Exploring AI definitions, methods, and ethical considerations in qualitative analysis.
- Introduction to CoLoop, ATLAS.ti, MAXQDA, and ChatGPT.
Sessions 2 & 3: CoLoop
- Setting up a project.
- Creating and working with AI-generated transcripts and summaries.
- Generating and asking questions using the copilot.
- Using CoLoop’s features for analysis, interpretation and reporting.
Sessions 4 & 5: ATLAS.ti
- Project initiation and AI coding.
- Creating AI-generated summaries and analysis.
- Using conversational features to question data.
- Exploring additional AI tools:
- Opinion mining, sentiment analysis, named entity recognition & concept mapping.
Sessions 6 & 7: MAXQDA
- Project setup and working with AI-generated content.
- Using MAXQDA’s AI Assist for code development.
- Using MAXQDA’s features for analysis, interpretation and reporting
- Exploring additional AI tools: topic modelling and sentiment analysis.
Session 8: Reflection and Future Outlook
- Comparing AI tools and discussing their ethical use.
- Transparent documentation and communication.
- Integrating AI with human interpretation.
- Future of qualitative analysis in the AI era.
Participants can expect to leave the seminar with a solid grounding in generative-AI tools as they can be harnessed for qualitative analysis, with concrete experience with using different implementations in three applications designed to facilitate qualitative analysis. In addition, participants will be aware of other ways in which AI tools can be used in qualitative analysis.
Key Takeaways and Learning Outcomes:
- Understanding of AI's role in qualitative analysis.
- Skills for appropriate AI tool usage in analysis workflows.
- Experience with AI tools for QA in CoLoop, ATLAS.ti, and MAXQDA.
- Ability to compare and choose AI tools effectively.
- Understanding of transparent documentation for AI in qualitative research.
- Knowledge of ethical considerations and best practices in AI-assisted qualitative analysis.
