Description:

Data documentation is essential to make sure that well-organised and well-documented research data can be produced from our research projects. This free introductory workshop on data documentation is intended for researchers and anyone who wants to learn how to best document research data. This workshop provides an overview of different types of documentation depending on data type (qualitative, quantitative), as an essential part of implementing good data management in research projects, with a focus on optimising data sharing.

In this session we will discuss key essential processes:

  • What is data documentation and how to document your data appropriately and effectively.
  • Different types of documentation depending on data type and how to create these, with examples.
  • What is metadata and what you need to know about it when sharing data.

This 90 minute workshop will consist of a 45 minute presentation, followed by a 30 minute practical element and finishing with 15 minutes for questions and discussion.

Presenters: Maureen Haaker and Anca Vlad

Level: Introductory
Experience/knowledge required: Basic methods of qualitative or quantitative data research
Target audience: Researchers/anyone interested in data documentation and data management
