Rick O’Gorman is a senior lecturer in the psychology department at the University of Essex. He has worked with online tools for well over a decade, and he has used Qualtrics since it was introduced at Essex, and has served as department administrator for Qualtrics in psychology for a number of years. He has supervised numerous students and staff in the use of Qualtrics.

Description:

Qualtrics is a popular online survey tool, used for academic research, market research, and feedback solicitation. It is a powerful tool for these purposes, and a useful model for how such tools work, in general.

In this course on Qualtrics, we will cover:

  • Tour of the interface
  • Setup a basic survey
  • Previewing, testing, launching
  • Exploring different types of items and response options
  • How to extract your data, and what it looks like
  • Useful features
  • Conditional survey design (experimental design, conditional item display)
  • Using participant responses to determine follow-up questions and populate text
  • Streamlined design (Looping—for when questions need to be repeated)
  • Pitfalls, tricks, workarounds
  • Collaborating within Qualtrics with other users

Learning outcomes:

  • How to navigate around Qualtrics
  • Awareness of the range of features within Qualtrics

Knowledge of the interface and of developing surveys within Qualtrics

Outside attendees will need either access from their own organisation’s Qualtrics or to notify the presenter in advance to ensure access can be arranged.
