Dr James Hall to join NCRM as new Deputy Director

Dr James HallNCRM has appointed Dr James Hall of the University of Southampton as a new Deputy Director.

Dr Hall will join a highly committed NCRM team and will play a strategic role in supporting the core responsibilities of NCRM, in the delivery of training and sharing of good research methods practice, the identification of emerging research methods training needs, and ensuring the centre responds with agility, flexibility and proactivity to the changing training and funding landscape.

Dr Hall said: "I'm very excited to be joining NCRM, particularly as the centre looks ahead to 2024 and its 20th anniversary. I look forward to working with the team at the University of Southampton, and with the broader NCRM partnership, in support of NCRM’s provision of cutting-edge research methods training and capacity building across the UK."

Dr Hall is Associate Professor of Psychology of Education in the Southampton Education School. His research aims to inform the provision of high-quality early education and the design of effective early interventions. His programme of research uses longitudinal, experimental and mixed-method investigations that cut across academic disciplines, including education, psychology and health. Dr Hall also develops new research methods in the areas of measurement and statistical inference.

Professor Gabriele Durrant, Director of NCRM, said: "We are very excited to have appointed a highly successful methods expert who will, amongst other things, drive forward our agenda in working across sectors. We are very much looking forward to working with him."

NCRM currently has 19 team members operating across its three core partners: the University of Southampton, The University of Manchester and the University of Edinburgh. Dr Hall will join a team of 10 based in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Southampton.
