We are very pleased to invite you to join us as we celebrate the first anniversary of the Cathie Marsh Institute and 20 years of quantitative social research at The University of Manchester.

Following the merger of the Cathie Marsh Centre for Census and Survey Research (CCSR) and the Institute for Social Change (ISC) last year, we would like to celebrate the one year anniversary of the Cathie Marsh Institute (CMIST) on Wednesday, 25 November from 1 pm onwards. The event marks our continuing research success in quantitative social sciences, and features talks from present and past researchers associated with CCSR and ISC, celebrating 20 years of research in CCSR and 7 years in ISC.

The day will feature panel discussions on our two research themes: “Advanced Quantitative Methods” and “Inequalities and Social Change”.

Special guest speakers include Professor Jane Elliott (Economic and Social Research Council Chief Executive), Professor Patrick Sturgis (National Council for Research Methods (NCRM) Director), Dr Omar Khan (Runnymede Trust Director), and Tom Clark (Guardian Editor).

In addition, there will be a lunch with poster presentations from a number of Cathie Marsh Institute research projects. The event will close with a drinks reception and discussion around Hard Times written by Tom Clark and Anthony Heath.
