RMF2010 Abstracts

Session: 64 - Thursday 8th July PM (14.00 - 17.30)

Title: Researching lives through time

Name: Bren Neale

Affiliation: University of Leeds

Abstract Details

Time can be understood not simply as the medium through which we conduct research but as a central dimension of social enquiry - a conceptual category and empirical experience as well as a methodolgical strategy. The aim of this session is to bring together and explore a range of methods for engaging with the temporal dimensions of social life. These include large scale quantitative panel and cohort studies, 'mixed' temporal methods, oral history research and historical 're-visiting' studies. The session will explore the distinctiveness of these methods as well as their potential synergies.
