Description:

Abstract: Having an impact on policy debate and decision making can be a difficult and sometimes opaque process. This advanced training day, hosted by the University of Bath Institute for Policy Research (IPR) on behalf of the GW4 Social Sciences Group, and co-funded by the South West Doctoral Training Centre (SWDTC), will focus on how researchers can engage with policy audiences and how research can have real policy impact. In addition, it will explore how policy audiences use research and reflect on the challenges that multiple and competing types of research evidence pose to policy makers. Speakers will illustrate the ways in which they have communicated their research to inform debate and decision making at local, national and international levels. There will also be opportunities to discuss the different pathways to impact on policy and the processes for engaging with policy makers, interest groups and the public on policy issues.

The IPR is pleased to bring you this opportunity. It draws upon the expertise of the Institute which was established to foster inter-disciplinary research of international excellence and impact, which bridges the world of research, policy and professional practise, and enables us to address some of the major policy challenges we face on a local, national and global scale. By bringing this event together through our collaboration with the SWDTC and GW4, we are able to foster our expertise across the South West.

Audience: This event is aimed at early career researchers, doctoral students and academics.
