Description:

As part of Digital Research 2012, the Digital Social Research programme presents this exciting symposium on the possibilities for research using new data.  In this symposium we will be exploring the science of new forms of social data (such as twitter, webmetrics and sensor data). The invited speakers have been chosen because they are at the forefront of using analyzing and researching the new social data and/or a key related area of enquiry will reflect on new data/media giving exemplars of their research power and value as well as some cautionary tales about their pitfalls. The focus here is to consider the short medium and long term implications for new media, new data, new methods for social science. The symposium will conclude with a panel led debate on the topic “A revolution in social data: current hype or future history?”
