RMF2012 Abstracts

Session: Thursday 5th July (14.15 - 15.30)

Title: Methodological Innovation

Name: Rose Wiles

Affiliation: NCRM Hub, University of Southampton

Abstract Details

There is an increasing interest in innovation in social research methods. This is partly fuelled by the expectation of funders and publishers but also by the need to identify better ways of addressing important social science questions. This session will draw on research being undertaken at the University of Southampton exploring methodological innovation. It will draw on two related research projects. The first will explore the nature of claims to contemporary methodological innovation in qualitative methods and the second will explore case studies of innovation to identify how and why innovations 'take off' and the limitations to innovation claims.
