RMF2012 Abstracts

Session: Wednesday 4th July AM (09.15 - 12.45)

Title: Methods in Field Experiments in Economics and Political Science

Name: Sayantan Ghosal

Affiliation: Research Director of CAGE

Abstract Details

Field experiments are used to study the impact of an intervention (such as a health care program or a microfinance program) randomizing participants into treatment and control groups and compare outcomes between these groups. Field experiments allow researchers to guard against selection bias. However, given that field experiments take place in a specific context, the extent to which research findings can be extrapolated is a key concern as are issues of fairness, scaling up etc. This session will focus on field experiments in economic and political science that address these issues.
