Abstract Details

Social scientists with an interest in the social construction and organisation of everyday life have tended to focus on what people say.
Multimodality aims to attend to a all forms of communication in social interaction, including language, body posture, gaze, and moving image, to address questions about, e.g. identity, learning, teamwork, and inequality. This course aims to provide participants with:

- An understanding of its origins and scope.
- Explications of multimodal frameworks and key concepts.
- Knowledge of the different ways in which multimodality has been taken up by a range of perspectives.
- An outline of the procedures of multimodal analysis.
