Understanding your audiences is essential to designing effective engagement and learning activities. Yet most events and activities are based primarily on the needs, interests and aims of the organisation running them. This workshop introduces the steps and skills required to really listen to your audiences and understand their needs. The workshop addresses the following:
- Listening skills (both individual and organisational), including how to overcome key challenges to listening
- Listening through effective evaluation and monitoring
- Putting listening into practice: Designing content for your presentations, events and activities with your audience’s needs, interests and motivations in mind
- Practical examples of implementing audience feedback
- Preparing an audience motivation statement
This workshop has broad applicability, including for those working in universities, public engagement, learning, training, management, digital communication and widening participation.
