Methods of Discourse Analysis

Thursday 31st may 2018 | 10am-5pm | OC1.04 The Oculus (and afternoon sessions across campus) | University of Warwick

Discourse Analysis investigates the social production of meaning. In this workshop, which is organised by Professor Johannes Angermuller and his collaborators, we will have a morning session with an overview of discourse approaches and a discussion of methodological challenges in discourse analysis. In the afternoon, students can choose between various methodological approaches to text and talk, including quantitative and qualitative methods (such as corpus analysis, conversation analysis, interviews, coding). Dr Ronny Scholz will run a workshop on corpus analysis, Marta Natalia Wróblewska on coding, Sixian Hah on conversation analysis, Johannes Beetz on poststructuralist discourse theory, Eduardo Chavez on interviews, Sal Consoli on reflexivity in discourse research.

This one-day workshop is open to students with a background in the social sciences and humanities who want to study discourse within a qualitative and/or quantitative research design.

Cost:

Free - a small number of travel bursaries will be made available to non- Warwick students attending.
