Description:
Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are increasingly being used both in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as in the National Health Service (NHS) and the public sector to capture the impact of healthcare interventions from the patient perspective.
PROMs have their distinct use in the private and public sector. For instance, in sponsored clinical trials PROMs may be used to capture potential patient benefits of new medicinal products. On the other hand within the NHS, patient-reported outcomes and experiences are routinely recorded for a number of surgical procedures to measure the impact and quality of care received, health-related quality of life (HRQOL). However, despite these differences there is a considerable degree of overlap in the use of PROMs in these sectors.
This one-day course will provide attendees with a background to PROMs and their use in the pharmaceutical and public sector with an overview on differences, as well as synergies.
Further topics that will be covered are the instruments used to collect PROM data, including the development and validation of these instruments, the differences between disease and treatment specific PROM and generic instruments, electronic PROMs, and an overview of the key areas of interaction between PROMs, healthcare agencies, service provision and commissioning.
