Description:

Thematic analysis is a research method for the interpretation of the content of text through the systematic classification of themes or patterns. Often used in social science research, thematic analysis is a very intuitive approach to the study of textual data which requires, nevertheless, clear analytical strategies to be properly carried out.

The first session will introduce the various stages of conducting thematic analysis. Contrasts will be drawn to other forms of textual analysis (such as content analysis, discourse analysis, and grounded theory).

Exercise

The second session will focus on the application of thematic analysis in social science research. We will work collectively on several pieces of text to answer research questions by way of thematic analysis.
