Description:

This module is part of a series of short (CPD - Continuous Professional Development) courses in Social/Official statistics delivered at the University of Southampton - Highfield campus.

Data Visualisation is the process of summarising and communicating the information in a dataset through graphics. This course examines what makes good visualisations, and how this depends on the audience and purpose of the visualisation and the type of data being displayed. The link between good graphics and an understanding of human perceptual and information-processing capacities are discussed. This module will provide students with an understanding of the principles underlying static, dynamic, and interactive data visualisation, together with the practical tools necessary to produce their own high quality data visualisations. Teaching will include lectures and practical computer workshop in Python.
