"Using Dedoose to Enhance Collaborative Research" is a virtual learning series intended for qualitative and/or mixed methods researchers

 

About this event

The two-part series will guide researchers through how to use Dedoose in their research. The workshops will combine discussions of the theoretical foundations of qualitative data analysis while incorporating a technical understanding of Dedoose's features and functions.

 

Session 1: October 6

10am-1pm PST / 1pm – 4pm EST / 6 - 9pm BST

Session 1 introduces participants to managing and analyzing qualitative and mixed methods data using Dedoose. Qualitative analysis strategies and theoretical foundations will be woven throughout the session. Participants will gain skills related to:

  • Data Preparation and Import
  • Excerpting and Coding
  • Coding in Teams
  • Codebook Management
  • Memoing

 

Session 2: October 13

10am-1pm PST / 1pm – 4pm EST / 6 - 9pm BST

Building on Session 1, this workshop introduces participants to advanced data analysis concepts and tools in Dedoose, and how to add quantitative dimensions to analysis. Participants will gain skills related to:

  • Descriptors and Demographic Information
  • Survey Data
  • Data Visualizations
  • Data Filtering

Participants will be provided demonstration data to work with throughout the series. However, you are welcome to follow along with your own qualitative data. If you have any questions please email contact@immrglobal.org

Facilitators:

Dr. Christina Silver

Christina Silver, PhD, is a researcher and teacher of qualitative data analysis methods and software, specializing in all the major tools, including ATLAS.ti, Dedoose, Discovertext, f4analyse, MAXQDA, QDA Miner, Qualrus, NVivo, and Transana. She manages the CAQDAS Networking Project, University of Surrey, providing information, advice, training, and ongoing support in software for qualitative and mixed-methods analysis. Christina also undertakes research, training, and consultancy via QDA Services Ltd. and is co-author of Using Software in Qualitative Research: A Step-by-Step Guide (SAGE 2014), and Qualitative Analysis using ATLAS.ti/MAXQDA/NVivo: The Five-Level QDA Method (Routledge 2018). Christina has trained many thousands of researchers and students in qualitative methods/software since 1998.

Dr. Sara E. Grummert

Sara Grummert holds a dual appointment with Dedoose and the Institute for Mixed Methods Research. Her areas of expertise include qualitative research design, qualitative data analysis, and advancing the use of visual methods in qualitative research. In her role with Dedoose, she leads strategy around how Dedoose engages and supports the larger academic and research community, with a focus on curating learning resources, conducting methods consultations, and training social scientists in how Dedoose can support more nuanced analyses. Dr. Grummert earned her doctorate at the University of California Riverside in the field of higher education administration and policy.

Dr. Michelle Salmona

Michelle Salmona and IMMR work in partnership with Dedoose developing customized training and consulting services. Michelle is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Canberra, Australia and the author of multiple books and academic papers including her co-authored book Qualitative and Mixed Methods Data Analysis Using Dedoose: A Practical Approach for Research Across the Social Sciences. With her background as a Project Management Professional and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, United Kingdom, Michelle’s areas of expertise include: qualitative and mixed methods research design and analysis, training in the use of digital tools in research and evaluation, and program evaluation. Her research focus is to better understand how to support doctoral student success and strengthen the research process through the successful use of technology; and build data-driven decision-making capacity in the corporate world.
