Description:

Messes in Qualitative Research Praxis: Realities in Ethnographic, Focus Groups, Documentary, Interview Methods

Qualitative research is notoriously complex and unpredictable. This workshop will focus on the messes that researchers encounter in the practice of qualitative research using a multi-methodological lens. The workshop will present the linear expectations in qualitative research and provide examples of real complexities that researchers might encounter in their praxis of qualitative research methodologies. The workshop aims to: 1/ provide a brief review of the linear and expected aspects of qualitative research followed by the complexities encountered at each research stage; 2/ provide examples of complexities and coping strategies in practising qualitative methodologies; 3/ develop a forum of qualitative researchers that are resilient in sharing challenging aspects of research and co-developing solutions with others. Social science experts will provide real-life examples grounded in research projects and invite participants to share their own research messes and creative solutions. This is a participative workshop with input from expert qualitative researchers.
