Members of the Hub team conduct research into the methods-related training needs of the UK social science community, which informs policy and practice in relation to the development of research methods capacity in the UK. Researchers at the Hub also undertake their own research on aspects of research methods and practice.
The main focus of the Hub is the strategic development of the Centre and on the coordination of the Centre activities.
The Hub is responsible for developing the Centre strategy; co-ordinating the NCRM training and capacity building activities; informing policy and practice in relation to the development of research methods capability in the UK; liaison with academic and non-academic researchers and organisations; assessment of the methodological research and training needs of the social science community; management of Centre communications, including dissemination, publications, online resources and outreach activities. The Hub also comprises the CASS programme of short courses.
The team at the Hub work with the nodes to strategically develop the Centre’s research programme and training and capacity building activities. Dissemination activities are of great importance and therefore the Hub team works with academic and non-academic sector organisations that have an interest in social science research methods. The Hub compiles an online database of methods training courses and events with national scope.
The Hub funds Networks for Methodological Innovation projects and coordinates the ESRC bursaries scheme for research methods training. It also commissions methodological reviews.
The Hub is based at the University of Southampton.
