Description:

The UK Data Service is holding an hour-long webinar on the topic of education.

This is a collaborative webinar involving Beate Lichtwardt from the UK Data Service at the University of Essex and Professor Emla Fitzsimons from the Institute of Education, Centre for Longitudinal Studies, at the University College London.

The webinar will showcase data on the topic of education that is available from the UK Data Service and will highlight the research potential of the data.

Beate Lichtwardt will introduce:

  • the types of data available
  • how the data can be accessed
  • the online support materials held by the UK Data Service

Professor Fitzsimons will give an overview of how data such as the Labour Force Survey are used to examine issues such as:

  • inequality in HE participation
  • degree participation and parental income
  • understanding how finance policy can affect higher education, e.g. how maintenance grants and tuition fees affect degree participation
  • understanding how governments can promote human capital accumulation

The webinar will take place between 11.00 and 12.00 GMT on 27 January 2015.
