Description:

Outline

The course aims to cover many of the commonly used parametric and non-parametric statistical tests, along with basic concepts of a randomised clinical trial and the analysis of survival data, with data examples from a health environment but for use in social research more widely.

Objectives

Participants will develop an understanding of what hypothesis testing is and the concepts that go with it. The course will also cover the topics of clinical trials (in cancer) and survival analysis.

By following the simple example data sets participants should be able to carry out all the statistical tests covered using an appropriate statistical package. An example of each test will be gone through using the statistical package SPSS.

Prerequisites

Participants should have a basic familiarity with quantitative data, research design, statistics and probability.

This course is suitable for people with some experience collecting, summarizing and analysing health data and for those who work with questionnaires which generate scores, randomized controlled trials and simple experimental/study designs.
