Description:
This workshop will consider the main ethical and legal issues that PGR students and researchers are likely to encounter when conducting research online. Issues include: (1) Public versus private datasets; (2) Free and informed consent; (3) Anonymity versus identifiableness; (4) Confidentiality; and (5) Data security and harm prevention. These principles will be explored in the context of relevant guidelines, e.g. the ESRC's Framework for Research Ethics and through examination of real life examples of online research.
