Description:

This two-day workshop is designed for qualitative researchers aiming to reuse secondary data in their own work.

Through presentations and practical sessions, participants will learn about the key issues in secondary analysis, including: research ethics, methodological challenges, data context and sampling.

Participants will also gain direct experience of accessing qualitative data from the UK Data Service collections during a bespoke IT workshop, and engage in other hands-on sessions focusing on:

  • how to read and reflect on data collected by others
  • the meaning and use of documentation and other contextual material
  • sampling strategies for secondary analysis

The workshop is suitable for all researchers who are contemplating, or already using, secondary analysis in their research. Reasonable experience and familiarity with qualitative research methods is a prerequisite. Participants will be expected to provide their own data for others to reuse.
