Aims

This workshop aims to support participants in developing practical skills in effectively communicating the results of qualitative research. The workshop will cover a variety of formats (theses, journal articles, presentations) for disseminating qualitative research. We will identify, and provide examples of, good and bad practice in communicating qualitative research.

The Participants

The workshop will be equally appropriate to individuals undertaking postgraduate study and experienced researchers new to qualitative research. The workshop will also be useful for individuals working in a variety of settings who wish to develop and improve their skills in communicating the results of qualitative research. The programme is aimed at participants with limited experience of disseminating qualitative research.

The Course Leaders

Hannah Frith is leader of the Culture, Identity and Society Research Cluster at the University of Brighton, co-editor of Critical Bodies (Palgrave) and author of numbers qualitative research papers on visual methods, the social construction of identities, and body image and disfigurement. Kate Gleeson is the Research Director of the Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Surrey and author of numerous qualitative research papers.

Workshop Structure and Content

The workshop will incorporate the Qualitative Research International Summer School closing keynote address by Professor Lucy Yardley.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The workshop will include some lecture content, but most of the day is focused on group discussions and small group work, with lots of opportunities to seek the advice of the facilitators.
