Aims
This workshop will introduce participants to the core concepts and assumptions of qualitative research. The workshop aims to provide participants with a clear roadmap for navigating the often complex terrain of qualitative research and to support them in conducting qualitative research from a position of competence and confidence!
The Participants
The workshop will be equally appropriate to individuals undertaking postgraduate study and experienced researchers new to qualitative research. The workshop will also be useful for individuals working in a variety of settings who wish to develop and improve their understanding of qualitative research. The workshop is aimed at participants with limited knowledge or experience of qualitative research.
The Course Leader
Adrian Coyle is the author of numerous papers on qualitative psychology and is a key advocate of qualitative research within psychology. Adrian is co-editor of Qualitative Data Analysis in Psychology (Sage), and has supervised over 80 Professional Doctorate and PhD students. Virginia Braun and Victoria Clarke are the authors of the highly praised and widely adopted textbook Successful Qualitative Research (Sage) and of the leading resource on thematic analysis Using thematic analysis in psychology. Debra Gray and Imgard Tischner are highly experienced in teaching and supervising qualitative research, and have published a number of papers on qualitative research.
Workshop Structure and Content
The workshop will incorporate the Qualitative Research International Summer School opening keynote address by Professor Brendan Gough.
Teaching and Learning Methods
The workshop will include lecture content, practical activities and small group work, with lots of opportunities to seek the advice of the facilitator.
