Description:

Choosing appropriate statistical procedures and understanding the statistics behind the software packages are an essential part of a survey researcher’s skill set. This course offers participants a unique opportunity to ask that “embarrassing” statistical question they have always wanted to ask. It is intended as a thorough refresher for those who have had some statistics in their past. Key issues covered will include:

  • overview of quantitative analysis considerations for surveys (including statistical theory and methods of inference)
  • descriptive statistics
  • some do’s and don’ts of graphs and tables
  • measures of central tendency and dispersion
  • inferential statistics
  • confidence intervals for means and proportions
  • hypothesis testing
  • two-sample t-tests (for independent and paired data)
  • chi-square test of independence.

Participants need to bring a calculator with a square root function.
