Description:

Professor Katherine Gibson leads the Communities Economies Research Initiative - an international network of researchers interested in building ethical economies for the future.  An economic geographer by training, she has directed action research projects with communities interested in alternative economic development pathways in Australia, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and the Philippines. Her books with the late Julie Graham, published under the pen name of J-K Gibson-Graham, include The End of Capitalism (As We Knew It): A feminist critique of political economy and A Post-Capitalist Politics.  They enjoy an international readership and have been have been translated into Chinese, Korean, Turkish and Spanish. Her most recent book, co-authored with Jenny Cameron and Stephen Healy, is called Take Back the Economy, Any Time, Any Place and will be published by the University of Minnesota Press in 2013. http://www.communityeconomies.org/people/JK-Gibson-Graham

This event is aimed at post-graduate students interested in advancing their understanding of community economies research.  It is open to all SWDTC students, but will be capped at 20 participants.  All those accepted in to the class will be required to read set material provided by Professor Gibson ahead of the master class.
