Two lectureships in Statistics (Ref A074)
Salary: £30,747-£35,646

Applications are invited for two lectureships in Statistics within the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Lancaster University, to start from 1 January 2011.

We are looking for applications from candidates with a promising research record and an interest in statistical methods for use in industry, medicine or social science.

Candidates must be able to contribute significantly to the Department's teaching and to supervise PhD students and research associates.

The Centre for Multilevel Modelling would like to announce our latest MLwiN
release - 2.20. Some minor new features/bug fixes have been introduced, eg,
Fixed bug in MOVE command with non-default column names, also MCMC seed menu

'Ups and downs' of friendship - Realities research on Woman's Hour

Location: Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute (S3RI), University of Southampton
Salary: £27,319 - £33,600

Applications are invited for a two-year, full-time research fellowship post to provide research support to Professors Danny Pfeffermann and Patrick Sturgis, and Drs. Dave Holmes and Pedro Silva in relation to a Research Project on "Fitting Models to Complex Survey Data: Which Approach Should We Follow and What is Required?". This project is supported by a grant from the ESRC and is aimed to develop clear guidance to researchers and practitioners on which approach they can use for modelling different survey data sets, how it should be implemented, inference possibilities, software availability, and where more than one approach is feasible, to discuss the theoretical and practical advantages of one approach over the others for specific applications.

Exit polling explained - by David Firth

Professor David Firth from University of Warwick Department of Statistics, who is also a co-investigator at one of NCRM nodes, has created a very useful website explaining the main ideas and concepts behind the new exit polling methods at elections.

Professor Firth's methods were used to make "spot on" predictions for BBC and ITV in 2005 and 2010 general elections.
