Frequently Asked Questions
What is NCRM?
The National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM) is a network of research groups, each conducting research and training in an area of social science research methods.
NCRM was founded in 2004 and is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). It is one of ESRC's major investments that aim to promote 'a step change' in social science research methods capacity and capability in the UK.
What does NCRM do?
Our research groups develop innovative research methods, while conducting cutting-edge social scientific research. We support the social science research community by running methods focussed training and events, facilitating access to training and developing e-resources.
How can I work with NCRM?
NCRM commissions methodological reviews that cover a range of topics including syntheses of literature in relation to methodological issues, descriptions of innovative approaches and discussions of methodological challenges. We are happy to receive suggestions for reviews. NCRM also commissions Networks for Methodological Innovation (NMI), that aim to stimulate debate on new methodological challenges and review developments within specific methodological fields. There is a call for NMIs once a year.
